From the motorways: M0, M1, M5, M7 crossing Budakeszi (Map) From the city via Moszkva tér (Moscow Square) ENVIRONMENT AND CONNECTIONS TO THE CITY CENTRE Zugligeti "Niche" camping opened in 1986 in the foothills of the János hegy (János Hill). The area has been an attraction for many centuries for people seeking nature, fresh air and entertainment in what was once open fields and vineyards but is now largely forest covered. For more than a century they would drive here in horse-drawn carriages and subsequently, when the tramlines were extended from the city, would come on the famous Tram 58 to a green environment in the heart of the city. Preserved by the State as a nature reservation area, the hilly, rocky terrain is ideal for walking, hiking, biking, climbing and jogging. One of the main attractions of Budapest, the Libegő (chair lift) is situated right at the entrance to the Niche. The Libegő ride takes one to the summit of the János hegy for a wonderful panoramic view of the Budapest region. The campsite's main building is a Budapest historical monument - the former terminal station of the Tram 58, a lovingly restored structural masterpiece of the woodcarver's building craft. Open all year round, it is now called the "Tram 58 Restaurant" and offers traditional Hungarian meals to our visitors. Two recently restored antique trams stand on either side of the campsite's entrance - living proof of our historic past. A regular bus service every 20 minutes links our gates to the centre of old Buda. Once checked in, you can leave your vehicle (and traffic troubles) behind you and ride the Bus 291 and Tram 61 to Moszkva tér and the heart of Budapest city. Tickets are available at the Reception.
